I am
so excited about this school year at Anderson! Our staff has worked
throughout the summer to prepare for the new school year by taking classes
to improve instruction, and by cleaning the school building from top to
bottom. Last year we implemented a new school wide behavior plan that was
very positive, promotes personal responsibility, builds on character
education and celebrates student diversity and success. We were pleased
with the outcome and have made a few minor improvements to the plan in the
students’ best interest.
We
will tighten our focus on academic growth and will reach even higher to
ensure that every child receives the educational support needed to succeed
in mastery of grade level skills and concepts. We believe that connecting
with students and their families is crucial to the success of the students,
and we know that “Together Everyone Achieves More!” TEAM is our motto and
is how we go about our very important work with children. We know that
together we can come up with more innovative ideas and research driven
practice that will improve our teaching craft and will help our students
achieve at higher levels.
To
give you a little information about who I am . . . I grew up in a small town
south of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Both of my parents were educators in the Ft.
Smith Public Schools. My father taught 5th grade and was an
elementary principal for more than 30 years. My mother was an elementary
teacher for many years until she retired. Both of my brothers are now
secondary math teachers in Ft. Smith.
I
married a Wichita native (North High Graduate), and moved to Texas where I
earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education at East Texas
State University with a Kindergarten Endorsement and Reading
Specialization. I taught two and a half years in Texas before moving to
live in Wichita. I taught 12 years in our Wichita Public Schools and earned
a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at Wichita
State University. I spent one year as an Assistant Principal at Colvin
Elementary, and was the Principal at Bostic Traditional Magnet for four
years. This is my fourth year at Anderson as Principal. My husband Tim and
I have a son, Matt, who is now a young adult.
I
hope you will work closely with our awesome staff in educating each Anderson
student in reaching great personal success. Our students truly are our
future. Working together our parents, students and staff can create an
All-Star environment for our Anderson family.
