At Anderson, we have a diverse population of students at our school. Our building Ethnicity includes, 27.21% Hispanic, 23.13% African American, 33.16% White, and an additional 16.5% that includes a high Asian population. These numbers change slightly throughout the year. We have over 89% of our children on free or reduced lunch; a number of our children are considered Migrant families, and more than 1/3 of our children do not speak English as their first language. We have homeless families, children that have behavioral disorders, one-parent families, and an extremely high transient population. In addition, we have many special needs children including gifted students. There are numerous students here at Anderson with academic challenges, however, when it comes to the structured, highly scripted movements that help benefit Bal-A-Vis-X® participants such as tossing beanbags, bouncing balls, and using the balance boards, you can cut through these cultural, economic, and language challenges. It is a program that goes through a process of training, monitoring student progress, and directing students to observe and readjust what they need to correct. They continue training in increasingly harder techniques, monitor each other and self monitor their progress. The ultimate goal is to create students that can teach their peers and assist in training the younger school children.
Visit the Bal-A-Vis-X website and find that it is a program for all students. It helps children with learning disabilities as their cognitive integration improves. Children with mild to severe behavior disorders experience a settling in their behavior. Children diagnosed with (ADD) attention deficit disordered / (ADHD) attention deficit hyperactive disordered find their impulsivity decreases and attention span increases. Gifted children will find their physical coordination improves and stress headaches diminish. Even regular education children will see their academic success improves and at the same time will not need to put forth as much effort.
