Successful brain function is accomplished when connections are being made across neural pathways. Brain Gym movements are a series of movements that stimulate a flow of information along this neural network of the brain and restores the natural ability to learn and function. |
Laterality Dimension is the two sides of the brain (side to side movement), where both sides must work together and integrate. Integrating both hemispheres are essential for patterning of whole-body movement. It is crucial that we cross and integrate this midline. These students may have trouble with balance and may teeter from side to side when walking. This skill is fundamental to reading, writing, listening, or speaking. Brain Gym®. |

Focus Dimension is the relationship between the back and front areas of the brain (front to back movement). The Focus dimension affects comprehension. Attention disorders (ADD or ADHD) are related to the inability to focus. Brain Gym®. Students that are over focused may walk down the hall with their fists clenched, shoulders up and heads forward. If they are under focused they are the opposite, head back, not engaged, disconnected. Appear to just not be paying attention. |

Centering Dimension is the connection between the top and bottom makeup of the brain (up and down). Centering is a way to synchronize emotions with rational thought and when we are centered, we feel more grounded and organized. This child may be bouncing in their chair, walking down the hall on their toes. Brain Gym®. |
